Center for Advancing Risk Assessment Science and Policy

Americans must have confidence in the scientific methods used to evaluate the safety of chemicals. To assess chemical safety, scientists study both potential health hazards and potential exposures and then integrate these to understand the range of potential risks under various use scenarios. This allows products to be designed in a manner that assures adequate margins of safety are maintained when used according to label instructions.

Through the Center for Advancing Risk Assessment Science and Policy (ARASP), the chemistry industry promotes the development and application of up-to-date, scientifically sound methods for conducting safety assessments. This helps to assure that the best available science underlies chemical safety determinations.

The Center fosters activities to promote adoption of policies and practices, both within and outside government, that actualize the scientific advances that have been made in understanding how chemicals act at the molecular, cellular, and organ levels.

The Center is a coalition of independent, self-funded groups housed under ACC’s Chemical Products and Technology Division. The focus of the Center is broad and, while it relies on chemical-specific examples, the Center does not advocate for any specific chemicals.
