The High Phthalates Panel (HPP) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) was formed in 2011 with a mission dedicated to promoting the benefits of esters of phthalic anhydride based on C9 and higher alcohols (C9+ phthalates). These high molecular weight phthalates include diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) and dipropylheptyl phthalate (DPHP).
In its efforts to support high molecular weight phthalates, the panel advocates before federal and state regulators and lawmakers to address unwarranted regulation and legislation; promotes sound science and objective risk assessments; promotes product performance and benefits; and advocates in the marketplace to address unwarranted de-selection.
DINP, DIDP and DPHP can be found in flexible vinyl applications across a broad range of industries and in hundreds of applications applications in our homes, cars and businesses. Flexible vinyl is used in automobiles to make them lighter and more fuel efficient and in a variety of household products, such as garden hoses and beach balls. Other key uses include: flooring, wall coverings, roofing and wiring.
ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley sent a letter on March 15, 2013 to
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Inez Tenenbaum requesting information on the CPSC’s CHAP on phthalates and phthalate alternatives.
