Higher Olefins Panel

In 1993, the Alpha Olefins Panel was established as a Chemical Products and Technology Division Panel of the American Chemistry Council (ACC).  At that time, the objectives of the Alpha Olefins Panel was for producing companies to work together in collecting, generating, and evaluating information required to complete Screening Information Data Sets (SIDS) for evaluating environmental and health toxicity potentials of C6-C14 straight chain alpha olefins (1-hexene, 1-octene, 1-decene, 1-dodecene, and 1-tetradecene).

In 1999, the Alpha Olefins Panel was renamed as the Higher Olefins Panel to accommodate the addition of aliphatic alpha and internal olefins that are linear, branched, or a mixture of linear and branched isomers (C6-C54).  In 2001, the Higher Olefins Panel submitted test plans (US HPV Challenge and ICCA Programs) to the EPA.  In 2004, The Higher Olefins Panel attended SIAM 19 in Berlin, Germany.  The Panel completed all HPV-related documents in 2005.

In 2005, a separately funded task group was formed to address higher olefin advocacy issues.  In November 2006, the task group published a report on the environmental properties of olefin and paraffin synthetic base fluids (SBF).  » view report
