Miami, Fl. (May 5, 2010) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) is pleased to announce that PQ Corporation, Merisol USA LLC, and Celanese are the recipients of the 2010 Responsible Care Initiative of the Year Award.
In 2009, ACC created the Initiative of the Year Award to recognize those companies that have undertaken specific program or activity that demonstrates leadership in the areas of employee health and safety, security or environmental protection in the chemical industry. Winners were chosen by attendees of the annual Responsible Care Conference and Expo after finalists presented their projects at a special conference session.
Presenting the award, ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley stated, “Responsible Care is a unique initiative that fosters the sharing of best practices in improved environmental, health, safety and security performance. Today’s winners are to be commended for their leadership and creativity in implementing exceptional programs as part of their Responsible Care commitments and set an example for others in industry to follow.”
Since 1988, the U.S. chemical industry, through ACC, has implemented Responsible Care, an award-winning performance initiative that has resulted in emissions reductions of 73 percent and a worker safety record that is 4 times safer than the average of the manufacturing sector as a whole. Responsible Care helps America’s leading chemical companies go above and beyond governmental requirements and openly share their progress with the public.
