KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (November 4, 2011) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) at its November board of directors meeting today approved Virent, Inc., as a new regular member. The company joins thirteen other chemical manufacturers approved this year. The Council also approved two Responsible Care® Partner companies.

“We solidly continue to grow our base of small and medium-sized enterprises,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. “In these uncertain times, companies of all sizes want to know that membership delivers results and value. Our continued growth is proof of our effectiveness when it comes to strategic advocacy, product and market sector defense, compliance assistance and business networking opportunities,” he added.

Virent, headquartered in Madison, Wis. is commercializing an innovative advanced biofuel technology that catalytically transforms a wide range of soluble plant sugars into hydrocarbon molecules like those produced at a petroleum refinery. Virent’s renewable hydrocarbons are used to make gasoline, jet fuel and diesel. The company is a winner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award.

The two Responsible Care Partner Companies approved by ACC were Canal Terminal Company, a bulk liquid terminal facility and a division of Canal Barge Company; and Third Coast Terminals, a specialized storage and toll processing operation.

AlliedBarton Security Services was approved as an associate member.
