WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 8, 2011)Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council, issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s address before a joint session of Congress:

"President Obama offered several proposals that will contribute on the margins to enhancing our economic recovery and that should engender support from both sides of the aisle. But the President missed an opportunity to build bipartisan support for fully developing our domestic energy resources, especially shale gas, an economic engine that can drive a renaissance in American manufacturing. Shale gas is an abundant source of domestic energy that can transform our nation’s energy security and revitalize our manufacturing sector, leading to hundreds of thousands of new jobs and a stronger, more competitive, resilient economy. America needs real solutions that are proven to put people back to work—shale gas is one of them."
