WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 21, 2011) – The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) has released a health and safety guidance video for professionals who apply spray-on truck bed liners. The video, “Working Safely with Isocyanate-Based Spray-on Linings,” is available to view or download for free.

Truck bed liners help protect vehicles from wear and tear through the application of durable polyurethane, polyurea or polyurea hybrid systems. Polyurethane products can be safely applied with specific handling and care.

The video released by CPI provides general guidance for professionals on how to safely apply high-pressure spray-on lining systems. It is intended as a supplement to other job safety information already available such as specialized training, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), product label information, and other materials. The video format offers helpful images for professionals to see how to apply the guidance offered in MSDS, product labels and other safety materials.

“Safety should always be applicators’ top priority,” said Lee Salamone, senior director of the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry. “CPI is pleased to offer this video free of charge to enhance existing training and guidance materials for professionals applying truck bed liners. It is our goal to help make this guidance available to small and large businesses across the country that apply durable polyurethane truck bed liners.”

In addition to the free video online, www.spraytruckbedliner.com/ also features a poster from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) with a helpful checklist that can be reviewed before using high-pressure spray-on lining systems. CPI encourages professionals to take advantage both of this free video, which runs 17 minutes, and the NIOSH poster.

Nearly 250,000 workers at more than 800 locations throughout the United States are employed in transportation industries that use polyurethane, including polyurethane truck bed liners.
