Plastics Make It Possible® Partners with NYIAS to Present Auto Experts Panel on Role of Plastics in Today’s Vehicles
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 13, 2011) – In light of the ever growing use of plastics in automobiles, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) is hosting Plastics Make it Possible to present a panel of auto experts who will examine the role of plastics in performance, design, safety and fuel efficiency on April 20 during the show’s Press Days.
Top names from all segments of the automotive industry will gather for NYIAS, one of the largest consumer shows in North America, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City from April 22 to May 1 to get a first glimpse of the hottest new cars and trucks.
“America’s Favorite Auto Expert” Barbara Terry will moderate the Panel, “Perspectives on Innovation in the Automotive Industry,” featuring automotive experts:
- Huibert Mees, Chassis Technical Fellow at Tesla Motors
- Aaron Robinson, Technical Editor at Car & Driver magazine
- Larry Erickson, Chair of Transportation Design at the College of Creative Studies
- Don Schomer, Market Development Manager at Bayer MaterialScience
Since plastics make up approximately 50 percent of cars by volume yet approximately 10 percent by weight, panelists will provide various perspectives on how the use of plastics contributes to performance, design, safety and innovation. Panelists will analyze the use of plastics in current and future trends such as hybrid vehicles, in-vehicle technology, light-weighting and others.
“Many of the innovations we’ll see in New York, from new safety features to in-car electronic systems, are made possible by plastics,” said Steve Russell, vice president of plastics for the American Chemistry Council. “We’re proud to be at the New York International Auto Show and look forward to hearing auto experts explore the role of plastics and innovation in today’s vehicles.”
“The New York International Auto Show is proud to be the venue where many manufacturers announce their most exciting innovations,” said NYIAS Show Director Candida Romanelli. “And we’re pleased to welcome Plastics Make it Possible to the Show to help educate the industry and the public about the many remarkable innovations happening in the plastics industry.”
