Helmet Awareness
Standards*: C.4.3: Explain how families, schools, and other groups develop, enforce, and change rules of behavior and explain how various behaviors promote or hinder cooperation.
E.4.6: Give examples of group and institutional influences such as laws, rules, and peer pressure on people, events, and culture.
Objective: Students will utilize print media to create a collection of individuals and groups who wear helmets.
Materials: Newspapers, magazines, posters, advertisements. A location to display the pictures and research the students found.
Activity: On going. Ask students to bring in pictures that show individuals at work and play wearing a helmet. Students should also be encouraged to bring in pictures of themselves or their family members also wearing a helmet.
Assessment: Weekly, students are to select one posting and either orally or in a journal explain the helmet being worn and the reason behind the helmet. Ask students to be specific as to exactly what danger exists for the individual.
