The American Chemistry Council’s Olefins Panel was formed in 1994 to provide health and safety information to customers and government agencies and to promote scientifically sound government regulatory action for olefins of interest to the Panel: Ethylene, Propylene, 1,3-butadiene, and 4-vinylcyclohexene (VCH).
The panel has sponsored research on the U.S. High Production Volume (HPV) and Extended High Production Volume (EHPV) Challenge Programs. Through these voluntary programs, the panel has provided summaries of health and environmental data for chemicals produced in large volumes.
Recently, as a result of research conducted by the Olefins Panel on butadiene’s health effects, the Texas commission on Environmental Quality was able to use more scientifically-sound information as a basis to determine air permitting for facilities in Texas.
The Olefins Panel is actively involved in research, scientific reviews, product education and advocacy.
