Long-Range Research Initiative

Welcome to the Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC). This unique program invests in science essential for understanding the impact of chemicals on human health and the environment. Its research is designed to complement research supported by its LRI partners in Europe and Japan within a global LRI program under the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). The figure below summarizes a number of scientific areas that are of interest to the LRI research program and that are critical for moving from data to decisions regarding today’s health and environmental issues. Communication has a pivotal role throughout the research process and in the presentation of scientific results that can effectively inform regulatory decision making.

From Data to Decisions: Informing Regulatory Policy

Our new LRI Research Strategy specifically addresses the growing gap between advancements in the new technologies and the science to interpret and understand the emerging data. Key questions include what research is needed to bridge this knowledge gap; how to harness the data to better inform decisions about public health; and how best to communicate research outcomes as they evolve.

I invite you to explore the LRI website to learn more about the different elements that combine to make the LRI a dynamic program that focuses on advancing the scientific base on which industry, governments and the public manage chemical products.
