ACC Board Unanimously Approves Continuing HPV Program
ARLINGTON, VA (November 7, 2007) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) Board of Directors unanimously approved continuing its landmark voluntary High Production Volume (HPV) program. This decision demonstrates ACC’s commitment to encouraging its members to sponsor chemicals and make screening-level health and environmental data publicly available with each new Inventory Update Rule, published every 5 years by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
For the past 8 years, a dedicated group of men and women representing more than 300 chemical companies worked intensively to generate the vast information now publicly available for the HPV Challenge Program. They volunteered to do a significant amount of work that in total cost hundreds of millions of dollars. As a result, more screening-level hazard data has been made publicly available faster than ever before and EPA is now able to make hazard characterizations and prioritize these chemicals for future work.
“ACC’s continuing efforts in this important program demonstrate our members’ commitment to product stewardship and sound principles of chemicals management,” said Jack N. Gerard, ACC’s President and CEO.
