Plastics Industry Convenes Workshop with Government, Academia, NGOs Seeking Solutions to Problem of Marine Debris

| WHY: | Because we all want to protect our environment for future generations, we are seeking to find consensus on a few highly effective programs (built on existing or new initiatives) that will lead to significant reductions in marine debris. |
Workshop panels and discussions will focus on identifying:
- Gaps and inconsistencies in the available data on the prevalence of various types of marine debris and impacts on marine life and the coastal environment
- Challenges and needs associated with policies and programs in the public and private sectors that address marine debris
- Opportunities for the development of on-going partnerships between industry, government and non-profits in the shared effort to develop and implement effective marine debris education, management, research and removal strategies
REPRESENTATIVES FROM ACC, GOVERNMENT, AND OTHER RESEARCHERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS DURING AND FOLLOWING THE CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN WORKING TOWARD A CONSENSUS ON THE MARINE DEBRIS ISSUE.
