Workshop discussions focused on identifying:
- Gaps and inconsistencies in available data about the impact of various types of marine debris on marine life and the coastal environment
- Challenges and needs associated with policies and programs in the public and private sectors that address marine debris
- Opportunities for the development of on-going partnerships between industry, government and non-governmental organizations, to develop and implement effective marine debris education, management, research and removal strategies, as well as to improve recycling opportunities
