ACC Statement on EPA's Interim Report on The Nanoscale Materials Stewardship Program
ARLINGTON, VA (January 14, 2009) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) today released a statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Interim Report on the Nanoscale Materials Stewardship Program (NMSP).
“ACC is a strong supporter of EPA’s Nanoscale Materials Stewardship Program (NMSP). ACC applauds EPA’s timely issuance of its Interim Report on the NMSP and welcomes opportunities to continue to engage with EPA on the NMSP. The Interim Report provides an overview of the submissions to the NMSP, the information contributions from other sources Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) submissions, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) manufactured nanomaterials testing program, information from other countries, databases focusing on products from nanomaterials, and a perspective on the NMSP for 2009.
ACC’s Nanotechnology Panel (Panel) through its member companies is pleased to participate in the NMSP and to have contributed to its success so far. Eight of the twenty-eight organizations submitting information to the NMSP are Panel members. ACC encourages all in the chemical industry value chain and beyond to provide information to the NMSP during 2009. The Panel remains committed to working with EPA, other government agencies, and pertinent stakeholders to facilitate the exchange and development of information on issues related to applications and products of nanotechnology.
The Panel wishes to recognize EPA’s leadership in implementing the NMSP and internationally in working with the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials (WPMN). Both EPA and industry, through the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC), are supporting the OECD Sponsorship Program for the Testing of Manufactured Nanomaterials. Many Panel members are actively involved.”
