2008 ChemITC® Annual Conference

More than 160 of the chemical industry’s foremost technology experts gathered for what was by far the largest ChemITC Annual Conference to date. From September 30 to October 2 at SAP Headquarters in Newtown Square, Pa., this one-of-a-kind conference brought many great minds together for valuable discussions, content-rich sessions and abundant networking with peers.  Among those were 25 ChemITC member CIOs who participated in the premier CIO Roundtable sessions. The conference focused on topics of critical importance to the chemical industry’s IT community, including benchmarking the use of IT, business intelligence technologies, cyber security, technology challenges facing member companies, advances in telecommunications technologies and the future direction of ChemITC and its strategic programs.

Among the event's highlights was a keynote address from Alan E. Barton, executive vice president of EHS and Sustainable Development at Philadelphia-based Rohm and Haas.  Alan shared his perspectives on Rohm and Haas’ journey to sustainability.  The company is working with The Natural Step International to use their scientifically rigorous framework to evaluate opportunities to become more green.  Alan reminded attendees that the chemical industry has always been conscientious in working toward sustainable business practices, but there is still more to be done.

As always, ChemITC Affiliate and Associate Members played an important role in the success of the Annual Conference.  Serving as this year’s conference host, SAP presented sessions as did IBM, Deloitte and Liquid Machines.  The Department of Homeland Security also actively participated in this year’s event, presenting on important topics including the roadmap to control systems security and CFATS next steps, auditing and information security. CIO Roundtable attendees were also treated to a networking reception and dinner hosted by IBM.

ChemITC members may access many of the session presentations from the Annual Conference in the ChemITC SharePoint work space.  Some presentations from the specific tracks can also be found in the designated Program work space (i.e., CIO Roundtable, Cyber Security, Survey and Benchmarking, etc.).  If you have difficulty finding the presentation you are looking for or are a ChemITC member in need of SharePoint access, feel free to e-mail your request to info@chemitc.com and we will be happy to assist you.
