ACC Member and Partner RCMS®/RC14001® Internal Auditor Training Course by Verrico Associates

Verrico Associates is offering an exclusive RC14001 and RCMS internal auditor training course for our Members and Partners. This course will provide comprehensive training and value to participants of all levels of experience. It will be held September 30-October 1 in Wilmington, Delaware.

You will learn how to:

  • Audit the unique issues in RC14001 and RCMS
  • Review documentation and records to analyze management systems
  • Use interviews with functional area experts to confirm documentation or establish audit trails

Product Stewardship in Action!

ACC will be holding three Product Stewardship Workshops in October for ACC members and Responsible Care Partners. The workshops are scheduled for October 19 in Chicago at the Hilton Suites Chicago/Magnificent Mile, and October 27 at the Total Petrochemicals downtown offices. These workshops will feature ACC company representatives sharing information about their Product Stewardship activities as well as updates on the Global Product Strategy (GPS); TSCA reform; green chemistry and other legislative/regulatory activities.

Small Business Council Responsible Care Coordinators Network Formed

At the last meeting of the Small Business Council (SBC) in June, approval was given to form a network of SBC company Responsible Care Coordinators. Such a network will promote sharing of practices, learnings, experiences, and issues associated with Responsible Care implementation for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs). The initial teleconference will be held on Thursday, August 26, at 11:00 am EDT. A separate Outlook meeting notice with the phone number, pin code and agenda will be issued. One Day Employee Safety Workshops Being Planned for September and October

As discussed previously, a new initiative is active among Responsible Care practitioners at both member and partner companies to focus on employee safety best practices. The effort is intended to accelerate improvement in employee and contractor injury rates towards aggressive targets set for 2013. An Employee Safety Network has been formed and all interested member and partner employees are encouraged to register to participate. In addition, a series of regional Employee Safety one day workshops are being planned for September and into the 4th quarter – and will be announced later this month. If you have interest in joining this network, would like to contribute to our “Employee Safety Excellent Practices Toolbox”, or would like to present a topic of relevant interest at one of our upcoming workshops – please contact Dave Gleason. We are also interested in finding host locations for these workshops and would be delighted if you would like to be host at one of your site or HQ locations.

Monthly RCMS/RC14001 Implementation Focus Call Set for Thursday, September 2, at 11:00 AM EDT

Our next call is scheduled for Thursday, September 2nd at 11:00 a.m. ET. On our previous call, we heard from Andy Piper about Ashland’s plans to expand its RC14001 certification scope to include dozens of new facilities in the US and overseas. Ashland currently opts for a single, multi-site certificate using the model developed for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 (and by extension RC14001) as opposed to individual certifications for each of its facilities. If you have a recent RCMS/RC14001 implementation and/or certification experience you would like to share on the September 2 call or have a topic you would like covered, please contact Dan Roczniak. A fourth workshop took place August 10-12 in Kansas City, Missouri, and was hosted by Chet Culley of rail Partner Kansas City Southern Railway at KCSR HQ.

Partner Steering Group Conference Call Held July 20

The Partnership Program Steering Group completed a status review of the overall partnership program on Tuesday, July 20. Among items discussed were the following: ACC Annual Meeting – partner involvement and partner specific activities; Responsible Care Advisory Panel – progress and plans; partnership program roster changes; quick view of 2010 Work Plan Status; review and update Steering Group Charter and Sponsor Role; and upcoming key activities relative to the partnership program overall efforts. Partnership Program Survey to be Completed in August

As part of our effort to keep Partnership program efforts closely calibrated with partner company values and needs, we are conducting a brief survey of all partner companies using the Survey Monkey on the internet. The questions, developed by Partner Steering Group Chairman Michael Ford of partner BDP, will be used to refresh the program work plan for the remainder of 2010 and in developing the 2011 Work Plan.

As we have said in the past – “the program can be as valuable to your company as you are willing to make it”. All partners are strongly encouraged to take a moment to complete the survey.

Responsible Care Leadership Group Meeting to be held September 21-23, 2010 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates-UAE

The 2010 RCLG meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will be held on September 21-23, 2010. The meeting is being graciously hosted by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA). On behalf of the RCLG and GPCA, I hope that you will join us for this important meeting. The meeting will run the full course of three days. For your additional information, the GPCA will be hosting a Responsible Care workshop for its members, preceding the RCLG meeting.

The workshop will take place on September 20, also in Dubai. More details will follow on this workshop.
