Greenhouse Gas Intensity

Effectively managing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are important indicators of Responsible Care® companies’ commitment to global sustainability. The U.S. government has challenged key industries to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity and improve energy efficiency. The chemical industry is responding through Responsible Care companies’ commitment to lowering greenhouse gas intensity 18% by 2012, using 1990 as a base-reporting year. Reporting progress on this website will provide a means to track industry’s response to this challenge.

Government data indicate a much stronger performance for the U.S. business of chemistry as a whole during this period, a reduction in greenhouse gas intensity of 31.1%.

Responsible Care companies have compiled their greenhouse gas emission data, and public reporting of their progress began in 2005.
