Center for the Polyurethanes Industry: Manager, Outreach and Education

Position Summary:

The position is responsible for supporting the work of assigned member committees relative to outreach, marketing and an annual industry conference, including planning, developing and delivering educational content and conferences that create value for members and strengthen the polyurethanes industry. The position is further responsible for interfacing with CPI members, American Chemistry Council (ACC) staff, key downstream trade associations and their members, and polyurethane industry customers, as well as building strategic relationships with customer groups both domestically and internationally. The position reports directly to the Senior Director, CPI.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development and execution of programs to promote industry interests in key polyurethane markets and contributes to CPI’s financial goals through the production of the technical conference, educational events, and literature.
  • Staffs the CPI Outreach Committee, its work groups, and the Spray Foam Coalition Marketing Work Group to ensure consistent coordination of outreach, messaging and communications activities as well as the promotion of industry education initiatives, industry statistics, recognition of innovation and positive developments within CPI and the industry. 
  • Maintains and manages the various on-line tools and websites maintained by CPI.
  • Monitors emerging issues and assists in developing suggested communications strategies to address these issues to ensure that CPI has timely and effective communications.
  • Develops, recommends and implements approved strategies designed to advocate the goals and objectives of the outreach and conference programs.
  • Leads the development and execution of the technical content for the CPI annual technical conference including staffing of the CPI Conference Work Group, as well as working closely with ACC Meeting Services Team, ACC Communications and vendors, to support a cohesive team approach.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with CPI members and key customer groups through their trade associations, as well as partners with appropriate CPI committees and work groups, and teams within ACC.
  • Represents CPI at industry and trade association meetings, trade shows and conferences, including presenting material on behalf of CPI, as needed.
  • Manages budgets and outside purchased services for communications and conference programs, as well as ensures contractors/vendors deliver agreed upon services in accordance with contract terms.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a communications, marketing or media field.
  • Three to five years industry affairs, trade association, corporate communications or similar experience.
  • Experience managing projects and teams using consensus-building skills to identify common ground when a variety of viewpoints are presented.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues, projects, tasks, and information/requests under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of issues while remaining a contributing member of a larger team.
  • Familiarity with trade association and government processes. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint and basic social media tools.
  • Ability to travel within the United States, as needed.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or relevant professional certification.
  • Knowledge of website management and ability to use social media.
  • Experience in a scientific or technical field.
  • Knowledge of how a public affairs agency functions.
  • Experience developing and managing large conferences.
  • Knowledge of the polyurethane industry.
