WASHINGTON (Jan. 31, 2017) – Hosted by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), this year’s Global Chemical Regulations Conference and Exhibition (GlobalChem) will take place February 22-24 at the OMNI Shoreham Hotel in Washington. As the business of chemistry’s premier policy and regulatory conference, GlobalChem offers a valuable opportunity for industry leaders, regulators and stakeholders to review key developments in the global chemicals management arena. A primary focus of this year’s GlobalChem conference will be implementation of the watershed Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (LCSA), providing industry an unprecedented forum to help shape chemical policy that will affect the industry for years to come.

Dr. Lynn Goldman, MD, MS, MPH, will provide GlobalChem’s keynote address on the introductory day of the conference, Thursday, February 23. Dr. Goldman is the Michael and Lori Milken Dean of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University and served as the assistant administrator for toxic substances at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1993 – 1998. Dr. Goldman will give her unique perspective on LCSA and the current chemical management landscape.

“This year’s GlobalChem conference—our first since historic passage of the LCSA—rings in 2017, offering an important occasion to explore the opportunities offered by what is a new day for the political and regulatory landscape. We are looking forward to hearing Dr. Goldman’s perspective on the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, what she sees as the most significant changes to the law and her thoughts on the key challenges and opportunities for the Agency in the implementation effort,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley, who will welcome Dr. Goldman and give opening remarks on the first day of GlobalChem.

Before the official 2017 conference opens, there will be an optional workshop for attendees to explore how LCSA will impact certain programs under TSCA, followed by a workshop on international chemical management programs, such as EU REACH. As part of GlobalChem’s focus on LCSA implementation, the conference will highlight ACC’s new Center for Chemical Safety Act Implementation, which provides consortium management for manufacturers, processors, importers and downstream users to proactively address new LCSA requirements. Other agenda highlights include discussions on 21st-century risk assessment, sustainability, chemical management issues in the value chain and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)

Beveridge & Diamond PC and Steptoe & Johnson LLP are the principal sponsors of this year’s conference and exhibition.
