WASHINGTON (January 31, 2018) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) announced the chemical industry’s premier policy and regulatory conference, the Global Chemical Regulations Conference and Exhibition (GlobalChem), will take place in Washington, D.C. from February 28 through March 2, 2018, at the OMNI Shoreham Hotel.

The three day conference will explore the early lessons stakeholders have learned from and strategies for the successful implementation of the 2016 amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Discussions will also examine the updated law’s impact on the value chain and how implementation efforts reflect or inform international chemical management activities.

“The GlobalChem conference provides the preeminent forum for industry and regulatory leaders to meet and discuss the most important issues in the business of chemistry,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. “This year, those leaders will examine how our industry has and can continue to effectively support EPA’s efforts to fully implement the amended TSCA. Our top priority is to make certain the amended law achieves what Congress intended: protecting human health and the environment; enhancing public confidence in the federal chemical regulatory system; and enabling our industry to continue to innovate, create jobs and grow the economy.”

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Michael Honeycutt, chair of EPA’s Science Advisory Board and director of the Toxicology Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), on Thursday, March 1. Dr. Honeycutt’s speech will address why good science must be the basis for effective and meaningful policies and regulations. In addition to his work at TCEQ and EPA’s Science Advisory Board, Dr. Honeycutt is an adjunct professor at Texas A&M University.

This year’s agenda includes sessions about the role of Occupational Safety and Health Administration and EPA under TSCA when worker exposure is at issue, 2018 priorities for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, global emerging regulations, sustainable materials management, state ingredient disclosure programs and much more.

Before the official conference opens, there will be an optional workshop day on Wednesday, Feb. 28, for attendees to explore the fundamentals of the amendments to TSCA and a look at international chemical management issues. Sessions during the workshop will include a TSCA 101, a deep dive into the new chemicals review program, data collection and generation and a look at a globally harmonized system of classification.

Beveridge & Diamond PC and Steptoe & Johnson LLP are the principal sponsors of this year’s conference and exhibition.
