New Supplies, Infrastructure Will Support U.S. Manufacturing Growth

WASHINGTON (September 18, 2014) - The American Chemistry Council (ACC) applauded passage of energy legislation by the U.S. House of Representatives today.

"We commend House members for approving legislation that will improve energy security, affordability and reliability while accelerating the national economic benefits of natural gas from shale."

"The Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act (H.R. 1900) will improve energy reliability by streamlining the pipeline permitting process, which will make it easier for the nation to get energy from where it is produced to manufacturers who need it.  More than $125 billion in new chemical industry investment is planned for the United States; and this legislation will help link the projects to production sites around the country.

"The Lowering Gas Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act (H.R. 4899) will help ensure that energy is affordable by unlocking the vast areas of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) that have been off-limits since 2010 and by requiring federal agencies to consider America's future energy needs in developing a national energy policy. As part of an all-of-the-above national energy policy , it can help diversify the U.S. energy mix and support the manufacturing revival now underway.

"The Protecting States' Rights to Promote American Energy Security Act (H.R. 2728) will enhance energy security by helping to maintain a healthy supply of competitively-priced natural gas while preserving quality, state-based regulatory oversight. The bill will level the field for production on federal, state and private lands and should result in increased production.

"In addition, the American Energy Solutions for Lower Costs and More American Jobs Act (H.R. 2) will accelerate development of the Keystone XL pipeline, an outcome that is long overdue."
