WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 5, 2011) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) today welcomed House passage of a bill that would expedite offshore domestic energy development.  The “Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act (H.R. 1230)” passed by a vote of 266-149.

“We applaud Chairman Hastings and supporters of this vital legislation to expedite offshore energy development,” said Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council.  “Safe and timely domestic energy production helps ensure that innovative chemistry products and technologies remain accessible to Americans, and that chemistry jobs stay here in the United States. When businesses believe domestic energy will be secure and diverse, they will make long-range investment decisions that benefit the U.S. economy and jobs.

“We urge Congress to move ahead on an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy that promotes energy efficiency and conservation, energy diversity, and expanded domestic oil and natural gas supply, onshore and offshore.”
