WASHINGTON (December 8, 2016) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s nomination of Attorney General Scott Pruitt as Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

“We congratulate Attorney General Pruitt on his nomination as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. We share Mr. Pruitt’s view that EPA’s regulatory decisions should be based on sound scientific evidence, and we look forward to working with the new EPA Administrator and the dedicated staff at the EPA to implement the nation’s key environmental statutes in a fair, efficient and effective manner.

“ACC has a particular interest in the ongoing implementation of the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act, the landmark revision of the Toxic Substances Control Act passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of Congress earlier this year and supported by a wide range of stakeholders. Congress adopted the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act in recognition that the fundamental chemical regulatory law of the land required modifications to enhance public confidence; establish a transparent, risk-based chemical evaluation process; and reinforce the role of the federal government in chemical regulation. We intend to work closely with Mr. Pruitt to ensure that the new law achieves these important objectives.”
