WASHINGTON (May 29, 2013) - The following statement can be attributed to the Formaldehyde Panel of the American Chemistry Council, following the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposal today of two rules on formaldehyde in composite wood products produced or imported to the United States:

"As an industry, we support regulatory goals that are consistent with our commitment to the continued safe use of this important chemistry. This includes the national implementation of a standard to help level the playing field, while recognizing that formaldehyde is a necessary ingredient in thousands of essential materials, including composite wood products used in building materials, kitchen cabinetry and furniture."
