WASHINGTON (March 24, 2021) – U.S. production of major plastic resins totaled 5.4 billion pounds during February 2021, a decrease of 35.7 percent compared to the prior month, and a decrease of 25.2 percent compared to the same month in 2020, according to statistics released today by the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Year-to-date production was 13.6 billion pounds, a 9.4 percent decrease as compared to the same period in 2020.

Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 6.9 billion pounds during February 2021, a decrease of 11.8 percent compared to the prior month, and a decrease of 3.9 percent from the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use was 14.8 billion pounds, a 2.1 percent decrease as compared to the same period in 2020.
