WASHINGTON (June 25, 2021) – U.S. production of major plastic resins totaled 8.0 billion pounds during May 2021, an increase of 0.1 percent compared to the prior month, and an increase of 7.0 percent compared to the same month in 2020, according to statistics released today by the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Year-to-date production was 36.4 billion pounds, a 2.9 percent decrease as compared to the same period in 2020.

Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 7.4 billion pounds during May 2021, an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the prior month, and a decrease of 0.6 percent from the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use were 36.4 billion pounds, a 3.5 percent decrease as compared to the same period in 2020.
