WASHINGTON (Sept. 25, 2013) - The American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement on the Administration's nomination of Deb Miller to replace Francis Mulvey on the Surface Transportation Board (STB):

"We congratulate Deb Miller on her nomination to the Surface Transportation Board (STB). Ms. Miller has a long career in public service and valuable experience from her work on transportation policy in Kansas.

"We also want to thank Francis Mulvey for his work at the STB. Dr. Mulvey's deliberate approach to public service has provided shippers and carriers with a fair forum to adjudicate rate and service disputes.

"Over the last several years, the Board has taken important steps to explore reforms that could reduce the need for regulation and rely on market forces to determine shipping rates and service terms. We encourage the Senate to confirm a candidate who is committed to keeping the STB on a course that will foster a more competitive and healthy freight rail system."
