WASHINGTON (May 6, 2015) - The American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement in response to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation's vote to confirm Daniel Elliott to the Surface Transportation Board (STB):

"We want to thank Chairman Thune, Ranking Member Nelson and the Committee for moving forward with Daniel Elliott's nomination to a second term on the STB. Returning Elliott to the STB will bring the Board back up to full strength and help put it in a better position to address ongoing rate and service issues.

"ACC has joined with a large collection of trade associations representing a broad cross section of manufacturing, agricultural, and energy industries to urge Congress and the STB to enact reforms that will allow the Board to operate more efficiently and effectively.

"Specifically, the  Rail Customer Coalition supports passage of S. 808, the ' Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2015 ,' which would modernize the STB to better serve shippers and railroads. The bill contains several reforms that would streamline the Board's operations and ensure it has adequate resources, including staffing, to resolve freight rail issues in a timely manner.

"ACC urges the full Senate to support Elliott's confirmation to the STB and the reforms outlined in the bipartisan ' Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2015 .'"
