WASHINGTON (April 10, 2018) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement in response to yesterday’s announcement that twelve federal agencies are signing the “One Federal Decision” Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to improve and streamline the environmental permitting process for major infrastructure projects.

“We welcome the administration’s plan to improve and streamline the environmental permitting process for major infrastructure projects. This is a priority for ACC since a highly functioning transportation network and robust energy infrastructure are vital to keeping the business of chemistry moving. We are part of the solution, as our companies make many of the innovative materials needed for infrastructure modernization.

“Updating America’s infrastructure will facilitate job creation, including in the chemistry industry, which – thanks to shale gas – is experiencing historic growth. Overcoming today’s infrastructure challenges will help ensure that our nation can fully realize the benefits of increased production.

“We are committed to working with the administration and leaders of both parties in Congress to enact policies that use market-based solutions to improve the efficiency of the freight rail network, enhance the capacity of ports and highways, and modernize aging water systems. These policies must ensure that all federally funded infrastructure projects require an open, competitive bidding process for all materials.”
