Survey data to be unveiled at 2017 Polyurethanes Technical Conference

WASHINGTON (September 19, 2017) – The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) today announced the results of a two-year survey on the polyurethanes industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The 2016 End-Use Market Survey on the Polyurethanes Industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico shows that polyurethane production rose in all major product segments between 2014 and 2016, with the most significant increase taking place for rigid foam applications.

CPI End Use Survey 2016

Combined polyurethane production for the U.S., Canada and Mexico increased from about 7.65 billion pounds in 2014 to 8.3 billion pounds by the end of 2016, with a significant polyurethane demand increase in the construction and automotive sector.

“CPI’s survey is one of the most trusted sources of information on the industry, and it clearly demonstrates the organization’s role as the premier knowledge center for the North American polyurethanes industry,” said Lee Salamone, senior director of CPI. “These results showcase historic trends and attest to what an exciting time it is for the dedicated and innovative professionals in the polyurethanes New Link industry.”

Electronic copies of the full survey are now available for pre-order. Orders may also be placed in-person at the 2017 Polyurethanes Technical Conference.

The 2016 End-Use Market Survey on the Polyurethanes Industry in the United States, Canada and Mexico, produced biennially by independent third-party IAL Consultants, provides a breakdown of raw material consumption for polyurethane markets in the United States, Canada and Mexico by type and by major end-use market for each country over a two-year period, as well as historic trends, market drivers and key issues.

“The bottom line is this: if you’re in the industry and you want to know how people are using your products, this survey is invaluable information,” Salamone added.

The survey contains more than 300 pages of information and analysis as well as 150 data tables, plus charts and graphs. In addition to the increase in production, the survey’s high-level results demonstrate that a greater demand for new vehicles increased the market for foam (e.g., molded flexible foam), coatings, adhesives and other products used in vehicles.

The full results of the survey will be available in October with key highlights presented at the Closing Session of the 2017 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in New Orleans, La.
