Savannah, GA (September 16, 2019) – Today, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) recognized Congressman Buddy Carter (GA-01) for his efforts to support the business of chemistry in Georgia.

“We are thankful for the Congressman’s commitment to ensuring that the United States continues to lead the way when it comes to fostering chemical manufacturing and innovation,” said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. “He is a strong advocate for his state and has championed many policies that support the economic contributions of chemistry in Georgia, including important pro-export legislation.”

Chemistry is a major contributor to the economic health of Georgia. For example, chemical manufacturing is the fourth largest industry in Georgia and chemical producers in the state ship more than $3 billion in products around the world.

“In addition to his accomplishments in Washington, Congressman Carter has visited many facilities throughout Georgia to meet with constituents who work in the field of chemistry to discuss important topics that impact them, including workforce, trade and safety issues,” said Dooley. “We appreciate everything the Congressman has done to represent the men and women who work in the business of chemistry, and we are happy to recognize his hard work on their behalf.”

ACC established its Champion of Chemistry Awards program to recognize outstanding members of Congress who actively engage with the industry and its workforce and seek to advance constructive and sound public policy that promotes growth and innovation in the field of chemistry.
