WASHINGTON (March 15, 2021) – ACC today announced that Acting Assistant Administrator and Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP) Michal Ilana Freedhoff and President of the Fifth Session of the International Conference for Chemicals Management Gertrud Sahler will deliver keynote speeches at this year’s GlobalChem. Registration for the conference, set to be held virtually from March 29 – April 1, 2021, is now open on globalchem.org.

Ms. Freedhoff, speaking the morning of March 29, will offer important perspective about the road ahead for EPA’s implementation of the 2016 amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act and other important priorities for OCSPP.

Ms. Sahler, speaking the morning of March 31, will discuss the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management, or SAICM, a policy framework to promote chemical safety around the world and other pressing international chemical regulatory issues.

ACC President and CEO Chris Jahn will provide remarks and introduce Ms. Freedhoff, and Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates President and CEO Jen Abril will provide remarks and introduce Ms. Sahler.

Ms. Freedhoff leads OCSPP in its mission to protect human health and the environment from potential risks posed by chemicals and pesticides. She earned her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Rochester. Ms. Freedhoff is a seasoned Capitol Hill veteran having worked in Congress for 20 years, including for numerous committees in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, most recently as minority director of oversight for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Ms. Sahler studied business administration at Cologne University and graduated Diplom-Kauffrau in 1979. She began her career at Dynamit Nobel. In 1985, she joined the German Federal Ministry of Justice. Following her work as press spokesperson at the Federal Ministry for Women and Youth from 1990 to 1994, she joined the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, where she served as press spokesperson for four years. Since 1998, she has held various senior positions in the ministry, including Head of Executive Staff.
