WASHINGTON (July 21, 2021) – The American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives today passed H.R. 2467, the PFAS Action Act:

We support strong, science based regulations that are protective of human health and the environment, and have a strong track record of working with lawmakers to enact meaningful policies.

“Unfortunately, the PFAS Action Act takes decisions out of the hands of EPA’s career scientists who are best positioned to make regulatory determinations. It also applies a one-size-fits all approach to regulating the wide variety of PFAS chemistries. Such an approach is neither scientifically accurate nor appropriate. It could also limit access to important products consumers and critical industries rely on, as well as jeopardize Administration priorities, including alternative energy, greenhouse gas reduction efforts, semiconductor availability and others. We oppose this legislation and will continue to advocate to lawmakers and the Biden Administration to listen to the science on this important issue.

“PFAS are a large and diverse universe of chemistries that make possible the products that power our lives -- the semiconductors, cellphones, tablets and telecommunications we use every day to connect with our friends and family; the aircraft that powers the U.S. military; alternative energy sources; and medical devices that help keep us healthy. PFAS are vital to enabling our lives in the 21st century.”
