WASHINGTON (July 6, 2018) – In response to a misleading Politico article regarding the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) internal draft formaldehyde Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessment, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) Formaldehyde Panel has released the following statement:

“The overwhelming weight of scientific evidence clearly demonstrates formaldehyde does not cause leukemia. The science shows the draft IRIS document is just plain wrong – closer to science fiction than sound science.

For example, formaldehyde is naturally formed in the human body and exhaled when we breathe. Incredibly, the IRIS program would have you believe the amount of formaldehyde humans produce and exhale – in every single breath – is dangerous and could cause leukemia. There is no scientific evidence to support that outrageous allegation.”
