Extremely High BPA Dose Not Representative of Actual Exposures

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 27, 2011) - The following statement can be attributed to the American Chemistry Council (ACC) regarding the study, "Disruption of adult expression of sexually selected traits by developmental exposure to bisphenol A," by Jasarevic et al. , published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). 

"Given the extremely high exposure levels of BPA used in this study-a single dose level approximately 250,000 times higher than typical human intake-it is of limited relevance for human health or the environment. Extensive biomonitoring data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other credible agencies confirm that typical human exposures are miniscule compared to the dose used in this study. Additionally, because the authors tested a type of mice not traditionally used in scientific studies, it is difficult to compare these results to the abundance of other studies on BPA."
