Validating emissions data and delivering timely, actionable insights to internal stakeholders and external partners can be difficult. To address this challenge, ACC Responsible Care® Partner, Highway Transport, has joined forces with Salesforce as one of the first transportation companies participating in the company’s sustainability cloud initiative, Net Zero. Net Zero is software that helps companies manage sustainability initiatives and generate disclosure reports.
By leveraging Salesforce’s advanced data capabilities, Highway Transport can monitor and analyze real-time environmental metrics, including emissions based on mileage, fuel consumption, and the weight of transported goods. These insights are segmented by service center, driver, and customer, enabling a comprehensive understanding of both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Highway Transport can calculate its total carbon footprint and break it down by operational intensity, such as emissions per mile or per ton of cargo. This precision allows the company to set reduction targets and monitor progress in real time, promoting transparency and accountability in its sustainability efforts.
Success is measured through reductions in fuel usage and emissions from both mobile and stationary assets, including trucks, offices, and cleaning facilities. In the first year of implementation, Highway Transport achieved a significant environmental milestone by reducing its total carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO2e) by 11,068 metric tons. The company includes this data in its “sustainability dashboard,” which tracks ongoing improvements and actions it is taking to lower its environmental footprint.
Highway Transport has also initiated an idle reduction program internally branded as “Idle Wise” that utilizes several idle reduction technologies installed in trucks, managing cab temperature, battery voltage, and temperature of coolant while the trucks are idle.
