As demand for global water supplies continue to grow, the need for clean, accessible water is as important as ever. LANXESS developed a water treatment solution that combines two resins—Lewatit® TP 108 DW and Lewatit® MDS TP 108—to protect drinking water and groundwater by removing synthetic chemicals that may be present in the water at very low residual levels.
This combination helps water utilities meet drinking water standards and industrial facilities efficiently adhere to discharge requirements, while lasting longer, performing well in challenging water conditions, and reducing waste and environmental impact.
LANXESS developed a selective ion exchange platform, a water‑treatment system designed to find and remove specific chemicals from water while leaving other substances behind.
- Lewatit® TP 108 DW is designed for drinking water and industrial use and can capture a broad range of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that may be present in water with high efficiency.
- Lewatit® MDS TP 108 focuses on the smallest molecules that can be more difficult to remove, strengthening the platform’s overall performance.
Together, these resins work effectively even in water with high levels of other dissolved salts, which can interfere with many treatment systems.
Lewatit® TP 108 DW is certified for direct contact with drinking water and can be used safely in municipal water systems. By helping operators reduce treatment waste and comply with relevant regulations, the platform aligns closely with ACC’s Water Stewardship Principles.
The platform was tested and deployed with the help of city utilities, engineering partners, and on‑site teams, showing how it performs in real‑world conditions.
By integrating this ion exchange platform into water treatment systems, LANXESS demonstrates how targeted chemical innovation can help protect public health, safeguard ecosystems, and reduce environmental impacts.
