WASHINGTON (October 2, 2026) – U.S. production of major plastic resins totaled 9.1 billion pounds during August 2026, an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the prior month, and a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to the same month in 2025, according to statistics released today by the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Year-to-date production was 71.3 billion pounds, a 4.3 percent increase as compared to the same period in 2025.
Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins totaled 9.1 billion pounds during August 2026, a 1.7 percent increase compared to the prior month, and an increase of 3.8 percent from the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use were 69.8 billion pounds, a 2.2 percent increase as compared to the same period in 2025.
