WASHINGTON (May 9, 2023) — Prior to an Executive Session in the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Chair Cantwell (D-WA) and Sen. Vance (R-OH) announced they will offer an Amendment in the Nature of Substitute (ANS) that makes significant improvements to the Railway Safety Act of 2023.

The following statement regarding the amendment can be attributed to the American Chemistry Council (ACC):

ACC shares the Committee’s goal to advance transportation safety. The amendment offered by Chair Cantwell (D-WA) and Sen. Vance (R-OH) makes significant improvements to the Railway Safety Act that will help prevent future incidents, strengthen emergency response and support the safe movement of chemicals vital to everyday life.

“We support the committee’s bipartisan effort, and we commend the hard work by committee staff to address many complex issues and seek stakeholder input. The Cantwell-Vance legislation provides a solid foundation for the Senate and House to move forward on rail safety.”
