WASHINGTON (September 9, 2025) – Today, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) issued the following statement in response to the MAHA Commission’s ‘Make Our Children Healthy Again’ Strategy:
“Chemistry plays a central role in advancing public health. Keeping all Americans healthy – especially children – is something our industry supports. At the heart of every breakthrough in public health is chemistry, and America’s chemical manufacturers are ready to continue working with policymakers at all levels of government, researchers, and communities to develop solutions that are both protective and practical. Together, we can build a healthier, more resilient America—without compromising the technologies and materials that make modern life possible.
“There are multiple recommendations in this strategy report that ACC recognizes as progress to making a healthier, more affordable America. We applaud cross coordination among federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Department of Agriculture (USDA), and others. We support the MAHA Commission’s efforts to encourage agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and EPA to pursue new approach methodologies (NAMs) and shift away from animal testing. Recently, ACC’s Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) announced a public-private partnership to accelerate the scientific development and evaluation of NAMs.
“In addition, we applaud efforts by FDA, EPA, and USDA to help ensure that user-fee processes are transparent and efficient. We also support the recommendation for EPA to use the increased scientific capacity in the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and the Office of Water to help ensure more timely reviews to bring more advanced technology and science to inform decisions.
“We support federal agencies working within their authority to carry out their designated functions. For example, EPA evaluates new and existing chemicals and their risks to protect both human health and the environment. We support agencies like EPA having the resources needed to effectively meet their statutory requirements.
“Smart, pro-growth policy recommendations can protect both the environment and human health as well as grow the U.S. economy. A strong American chemical industry is a key ingredient for a healthier, more competitive nation. From protecting our food supply and reducing food waste to enabling product affordability, chemistry helps make our modern systems possible.
“We look forward to continuing to engage with the MAHA Commission on this important initiative.”
