LANXESS's Chirino to Chair ACC's Automotive Team

DETROIT, MI (June 4, 2019) – Jose Chirino, technical director for the High Performance Materials business unit at LANXESS Corporation, was elected as Chair of the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Automotive team, based in Detroit, MI.

“The expertise, knowledge, and product diversity reflected in our chair and team members are an asset to the industry,” said Senior Director of Automotive, Gina-Marie Oliver. “The team’s leadership will continue to guide us in an ever-changing political and technological landscape to continue highlighting the importance of automotive plastics and composites for lightweighting and safety innovations, enabling autonomous and electric vehicles, jobs creation, and establishing the U.S. as the global leader in advanced automotive manufacturing technologies.”

The ACC Automotive team is a pre-competitive forum of plastics industry experts promoting broader polymer solutions for the automotive industry.

“Our team is focused on bridging the gaps between automobiles and autonomous drivingconnected vehiclesEV technologies, and sustainability,” said Mr. Chirino. His 20 years of experience in plastics, encompasses the spectrum of production to end-product and design through application development with various polymers such as: polyurethanes, polycarbonate, polyesters and polyamides. Prior to assuming the chairmanship, he served as the vice chair of ACC’s Automotive Team.

Mr. Chirino will present in August at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars (MBS) on lightweight plastics’ and composites’ roles in vehicle and passenger safety, their essential contributions to mega trends like autonomous driving, and the latest research shaping ACC’s 2020 Plastics and Automotive Technology Roadmap.
