WASHINGTON, DC (May 14, 2024) – American Chemistry Council (ACC) President and CEO Chris Jahn today issued a statement in response to the retirement of Surface Transportation Board (STB) Chairman Oberman and the designation of Board Member Robert Primus as his successor:

“We thank Chairman Oberman for his dedicated leadership and congratulate incoming Chairman Primus on his appointment to this pivotal role on the STB. It is now up Chairman Primus to build on his predecessor’s efforts to modernize Board policies and address the ongoing challenges faced by today’s freight rail shippers.

“With his expertise and commitment to finding solutions, Chairman Primus is well-positioned to help the STB to resolve problems quicker, and where possible, prevent them from happening in the first place. As a vocal advocate for increasing competition within the rail industry, he has made it clear that he expects the Board to do better and do more – particularly by using its authority to provide and expand reciprocal switching where needed to promote competitive rail service."

Chris Jahn, President & CEO | American Chemistry Council
We are committed to working with Chairman Primus and the other Board members to further reduce regulatory barriers to competition and hold railroads accountable when they fail to deliver reliable service.
