WASHINGTON (May 23, 2025) – Chemistry is essential to economic growth, innovation, public health, and American competitiveness and we are pleased that is acknowledged in this report.

$12.7
Billion invested in research and development of chemistry

The domestic chemical manufacturing industry invests billions of dollars every year — $12.7 billion in 2023 alone -- in research and development towards products and technologies of chemistry that help make our lives healthier, safer, and more productive. Our Long-Range Research Initiative has invested in science essential for understanding the safety of chemicals for human health and the environment.

Keeping all Americans healthy – especially children – is something everyone supports. New recommendations or next steps based upon this report should be driven by sound science. The domestic chemical manufacturing industry has and can continue to advance approaches that improve risk-based decision making. Americans want a stronger, healthier, more affordable nation – and America’s chemical manufacturers are part of the solution.
